Janica is admitted in the intensive care unit of the “Palm West Hospital”. Her condition has stabilized, and new scans and MRI images are taken.

The physicians confirm that it is a melanoma but do not share the opinion of the Quebec specialists.

Conversation between our physician, in Quebec, and the radiotherapy specialist from the Palm West Hospital. Janica continually has seizures. The Quebec physician insists that the metastases do not react to radiotherapy and that there is no other alternative than to let Janica die at the hospital in Longueuil. The physicians from the West Palm Beach Hospital believe it is unsafe to transport Janica and are convinced that a radiotherapy treatment will help her gain some time, until a more definitive solution can be found. A decision is taken: Janica immediately begins radiotherapy treatments.
Dr. Milan recommends that Janica be sent to the Lee Moffitt cancer centre after the treatments. He emphasizes that this centre is specialized in the treatment of melanomas and that it has an international reputation.

A more elaborate MRI is taken for the operation and for the positioning of markers on Janica’s cranium.

First surgery for the removal of two brain tumours. The tumours are located at the back of the brain and affect Janica’s vision. The operation is a complete success. Janica has no more headaches.

Second surgery, for the removal of a third brain tumour. The tumour is located on the left hemisphere, very near the vital motor centres. The operation is a complete success. Janica has no more seizures.
